LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan House this week approved legislation that will require the Department of Human Services to check the US Social Security Death Index each month to make sure Bridge Cards aren't being issued to dead people.
State Representative Tim Kelly says that such a common sense practice will ensure that no abuse occurs in the future under less watchful officials. If the legislation becomes law, Bridge Card benefits will be terminated once it's found out that a recipient is actually no longer living.
