COLUMBIA (WKZO) -- Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies responded to a one-vehicle fatal traffic crash in the 46000-block of Baseline Road in Columbia Township around 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

38-year-old Timothy Thurston of Grand Junction was pronounced dead at the scene.  dEPUTIES say speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, but cannot say whether or not alcohol was a factor pending toxicology test results.

The 1996 Mazda's airbags deployed, but deputies say Thurston was not wearing his safety belt when the vehicle crashed into a tree.  The crash remains under investigation.
