Badger Hockey overcomes rough early season to earn home ice in tourney


MADISON, WI  (WSAU)  -  The Wisconsin Badger Hockey Team secured home ice in the playoffs with a 3-2 win over 8th ranked St. Cloud State.  

With the State Boys Basketball Tournament taking over the Kohl Center, the hockey game was played at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which was the Badger Hockey home for many years.

5,781 watched as 14th ranked Wisconsin finished play in the WCHA at 17-12-7, 13-9-7 in the WCHA conference.

Frankie Simonelli scored 43 seconds into the game and Michael Mersch added two more scores.   begin postseason hockey in Madison next weekend for the first time in three seasons.

The Badgers had a rough season start at 1-7-2 , but fought back with a strong second half of the season to earn home ice in post season play starting next weekend.
