South Haven was hitting early and often as they defeated Plainwell 64-42 on in Friday night’s district final at Otsego High School. The Rams showed they were able to score the ball from the outside and the inside and that proved to be enough as the Rams won their fourth straight district title.
South Haven jumped on top in the first quarter. Brian Harris hit a pair of three pointers in the first quarter to start the good shooting on the night as the Rams led 14-12 after one quarter. The hottest shooter of the night though was Ryan Dorrow who hit four three pointers, three of which came in the second quarter and helped South Haven outscore the Trojans 13-8 in the second and take a 27-20 lead into halftime.
The second half opened with more shooting for South Haven when Dorrow hit his fourth three of the game, and the good shooting forced a defensive switch from the Trojans. With Plainwell forced to switch from their zone to a man-to-man defense, it opened up the driving lanes for the Rams to get to the basket. They utilized the opportunities as they outscored Plainwell 15-8 in the third and led by 14 going into the fourth. In the fourth quarter the Rams were able to slowly wear down Plainwell and they outscored the Trojans as they had in the previous three quarters.
Senior Center Tyler White was once again the bright spot on Friday night for Plainwell as he was a strong force inside leading all scorers with 18 points which went along with nine rebounds. Junior Carter Yaw also reached double figures scoring 12 points from his guard spot. A trio of Rams reached double figures led by Dorrow’s 14 points. Brian Harris and Marquiz Dixon both added ten for South Haven who advances to the Regional at Marshall high school.
