The 507th returns to Kalamazoo from Afghanistan Saturday

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- They have done life-saving work in Afghanistan, now more than 160 members of the 507th Engineering Battalion based in Kalamazoo are returning home and the community is planning a big welcome home celebration.

The Michigan National Guard Unit has spent 10-months assisting with route clearing operations.They have spent the last week in Fort Bliss, Texas, reacquainting themselves to civilian life and debriefing, doing paperwork and turning in equipment.

The unit will fly into Gerald R. Ford International at about 2 p.m. Saturday and be bused to Portage Central High by 3:30 for the celebration.

Among the greeters and speakers will be the top military commander for the Michigan National Guard Maj. Gen. Gregory J. Vadnais.
