LANSING (WKZO) -- Legislation has been introduced in the State House that would suspend the welfare benefits to parents of children who are repeatedly absent from school.
The plan's sponsor, State Representative Al Pscholka, says it'll help ensure that kids in families receiving welfare benefits are getting an education by holding parents accountable. He adds that The Parental Responsibility Act, as he calls it, is designed to help lift children in welfare families out of poverty by ensuring they stay in the classroom.
The bill is now before the House Committee on Family, Children, and Seniors.
