LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- A fender-bender turned into a brief high speed chase with a hit and run driver, all because that driver and his passenger both had something to hide.
The initial crash between the Yellow Ford Escape and the Red Dodge Durango took place in the 55-thousand block of the Red Arrow Highway in Lawrence Township.
The Escape suffered front end damage but sped off anyway just before 2 p.m. on Friday. Deputies spotted it traveling fast on C.R. 681, chased it down and pulled it over.
They discovered the 38-year-old driver from Lawrence had a suspended license and fraudulent insurance papers. The Passenger, a 37-year-old Dowagiac man, was carrying about 4-grams of Marijuana.
The two people in the Durango were not hurt but their vehicle suffered damage to the taillight and back bumper.
