Holland may be the 'nicest' town in the U.S. but it has some dark secrets

OTTAWA COUNTY (WKZO) -- After nearly two full days of testimony, Holland District Court Judge Brad Knoll has bound Ryan Wyngarden over to be tried for the 1987 shooting deaths of Gail and Rick Brink in their Park Township home.

The 50-year-old Zeeland man was arrested in January after cold case detectives spent more than a year going over the files and interviewing witnesses in the.

Wyngarden was the brother of Gail Brink, and testimony in the preliminary hearing revealed that he allegedly had a incestious affair with his sister.

Both his wife and an ex-girlfriend testified that he confessed to the affair.
Prosecutors contend that he killed her out of jealousy over her recent marriage, and killed Rick Brink in order for him to not know about the affair.

In the second day of testimony, inmate Daryl Cain testified that Wyngarden made a jailhouse confession, claiming he bragged about setting up the killings to look like hits.

Wyngarden was ordered held without bond and bound over to circuit court for a March 11th arraignment.
