VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO) -- Marine Patrols in Van Buren County arrested a couple of drunken boaters over the weekend.

The 27-year-old from Sault Sainte Marie piloting a Jet Ski in a no wake zone on the Black River registered a .15 blood alcohol count, and was also cited for failure to obtain a Boaters Safety Certificate Saturday afternoon.

About 10 p.m. Saturday night, the operator of a pontoon boat was stopped on Cedar Lake for running without navigation lights. The 22-year-old man from Kalamazoo had a blood alcohol count of .20

Both men were cuffed and taken to the Van Buren County Jail.

Area Marine Patrols have stepped up drunken-boating enforcement as part of “Operation Dry Water”, through the 4th of July and next weekend.
