Detroit, MI (WKZO) – The Tigers are sure glad to see the Angels leave town. The Angels completed the season sweep over the Tigers after Phil Coke gave up two runs in the 10th inning as the Angels are 6-0 against the Tigers in 2013 after Thursday afternoon’s 3-1 extra inning victory. Dating back to last year the Angels have now won nine in a row against the Tigers
Doug Fister was excellent in seven innings allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out four and walking just one but failed to get any run support.
The Tigers bats only managed to get one run on the board off of Angels’ starter Jered Weaver. Weaver was dialed in as he struck out six in seven innings and allowed only one run on a RBI single to Brayan Pena, scoring Victor Martinez during the second inning to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
Albert Pujols hit the game winning double off Coke in the 10th inning after Austin Jackson dropped a deep fly ball after making contact with the center field wall. Mike Trout continued his success against Tiger pitching as he went 4 for 5 with a double and scored the Angels third run of the game on a sac fly from Josh Hamilton.
The Tigers finished up their nine game home stand 4-5 and now head to Tampa Bay for three games with the Rays starting on Friday night. Max Scherzer looks to improve his record to 12-0 as he gets the starting nod. Alex Colome (1-0, 0.00) gets the start for the Rays. Colome has not allowed a run in 10 innings of work this year.
