Waves of summer storms leave West Michigan homeowners in the dark

by

UNDATED (WKZO) -- Quite a light show out there this morning as mother nature’s fireworks pounded West Michigan early this morning. Consumers Energy crews are being dispatched to address scattered power outages.

There are reports of standing water on some area roadways including at Crosstown Parkway. Treat blacked out traffic signals as four way stops.

They got three inches of rain in less than an hour near Parchment.

Consumers Energy reports about 42-hundred homes in Kalamazoo County have been blacked out, about a 11-hundred in Allegan County, and a few hundred each is Van Buren and Calhoun Counties.

Area police agencies are warning drivers to watch for standing water on the road, and State Farm spokesperson Angie Rinnock says watch for lightning .

She says don’t stand under trees, try to stay indoors and stay off your hme phone while there is lightning in the area.

This happens to be lightning awareness week.
