Local Michigan governments can restrict fireworks under new measure

LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan's new fireworks law allowing for an expanded use of consumer-grade products is being scaled back.  A new law allowing local governments the freedom to put in their own restrictions is now on the books, signed this week by Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley.

For the last year, people could light off firecrackers and more with no restrictions regardless of the time of day on ten national holidays, along with the day before and day after.  Lawmakers started hearing complaints about noise issues quickly after the relaxed standards were passed last year.
