PORTAGE (WKZO) -- Portage Public Safety responded to an explosion early Tuesday morning.
Just before 5 a.m., Portage Public Safety dispatch received a report of an explosion and fire in the 5500-block of Meredith Street. First responders found a home engulfed in flames and a neighbor informed them that the owner did not seem to be home at the time. The blaze was under control in 30-minutes, though much more time was spent extinguishing hot spots and searching for what caused the fire.
Fire departments from Comstock, Oshtemo, and Texas Township all offered assistance in battling the blaze. An investigation into the origin of the fire continues. So far, no damage estimate has been issued.
