Protestors drop a Fathers Day card off at Fred Upton's office

Undocumented Students visit Fred Upton's District Office on Friday

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) --  Protestors delivered an oversized Father’s Day Card to Fred Upton’s district office in Downtown Kalamazoo because of his vote to defund the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

The card read, “while you enjoy Father’s Day, our families are being torn apart, and you are part of that”.

The program for young adults and students nick-named the “DREAMERS” are the children of illegal immigrants who have lived most of their lives in the U.S.

David Mata is an undocumented student and recent graduate of WMU with a Master’s in Biomedical Science. He says the “DREAMERS” are the most bi-partisan piece of Immigration reform.

Upton Spokesperson Lynn Turner told the protestors Friday that the Congressman wants comprehensive reform, not a piecemeal approach to the immigration issue.
