PORTAGE (WKZO) -- The Portage Board of Education has narrowed their list of candidates for Superintendent from three to two, eliminating Dr. Catherine Cost from the search.
Initially the board was impressed with Cost's work in larger school districts, but ultimately she was eliminated due to years of experience as a Superintendent. One board trustee plainly commented that,Portage isn’t the place to learn on the job."
The two finalists that remain, Roger Rathburn, Supt. of Three Rivers Schools, and Mark Bielang, Supt. of Paw Paw schools, both have cheif executive experience in their school districts for many years.
Both candidates will undergo a second round of intensive questioning starting next Wednesday.
