Kansas City, MO (WKZO) – Miguel Cabrera hit a two run homer in the third inning but the Royals followed with three runs in their half of the third and that was all the scoring that was done as Kansas City has now won six in a row with Monday’s 3-2 victory over the Tigers.
Doug Fister was brilliant for the Tigers tossing a complete game but took the loss. Fister went eight innings, allowing just the three runs – all earned – while striking out three and not issuing a walk. This was Fister’s fourth straight quality start but has taken the loss in three of those games.
Jeremy Guthrie pitched an impressive 6 1/3 innings limiting the Tigers to just the two run homer by Cabrera to pick up his seventh win of the year. Guthrie didn’t strike out a batter while giving up six hits and three walks.
Salvador Perez hit a two-run triple then scored the go ahead run on an infield single by Lorenzo Cain in the third to end the Tigers four game winning streak.
Cabrera’s home run was his 18th. Torii Hunter was on base during Cabrera’s homer after reaching on a double.
Greg Holland picked up his 13th save after striking out two to close out the ninth.
Tigers look to rebound on Tuesday night as Max Scherzer (8-0, 3.24 ERA) looks for his ninth win. Wade Davis (3-5, 5.66) gets the start for KC.
