A Don Kelly three run home run was the difference as the Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park. The win completed a three game sweep for the Tigers who now lead the Central Division by five games. They also complete a very successful 5-1 home stand.
Kelly’s home run came in the sixth inning. With the game tied 1-1 he drilled a ball over the right field wall to score Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. The home run also made a winner of Jose Alvarez who made his major league debut on the mound for Detroit in place of Anibal Sanchez. Alvarez was stellar as he pitched six innings and allowed one run on only three hits while striking out seven.
The Tigers now head back out on the road for a six game road trip that stars on Monday night at 8:10 in Kansas City.
