KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Public safety thought they had the suspect in a Fourth of July shooting cornered in a home on Washington in the Edison Neighborhood yesterday and moved in with the county’s special weapons and tactics team, but apparently missed their target.
Okoli Staggers has been on the run ever since they claime he opened fire, shooting randomly down Hayes Park Avenue while children and adults were lighting fireworks.
One of the slugs hit a 52-year-old man in the leg. He is recovering.
They missed Staggers but think they found his gun, and plan to run tests on it to determine if it was used in this crime or others.
Staggers is wanted for 8 felony counts including assault with intent to murder. He is still believed to be in the Kalamazoo area.
