GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) -- A Portage man who siphoned over 6.5-million dollars out of the accounts of the Village Markets over 7 to 8 years is going to spend the next 7-years in a federal prison. He was sentenced this week.
By the time they figured out what 42-year-old Comptroller Christopher Pratt of Portage was doing, the Village Markets had to close 3 stores, lay off 170 employees and were nearly out of business.
Pratt used some of the money to buy and restore old muscle cars, including 14 Mustangs, 4 Dodge Challengers, two Plymouth Barracudas and a Pontiac GTO, among others.
The FBI says that Pratt will serve three years of supervised probation once he is released, and has been ordered to reimburse the company for the $6.5-million he stole and pay a like amount to the U.S. Government.
