DETROIT (WKZO) -- The Detroit Tigers have made a move to shore up their depleted bullpen. Tigers President, CEO and General Manager Dave Dombrowski announced Monday morning that Veras has been acquired in exchange for outfielder Danry Vasquez and a player to be named later on or before September 15th, 2013.
Veras adds depth to a bullpen that has struggled to find it's closer during the 2013 season. The Tigers have rotated multiple options at the end of games with Bruce Rondon, Jose Valverde and most recently Joaquin Benoit taking the reigns. Veras however has served as the Astros closer compiling an 0-4 record with a 2.93 ERA in 43 innings pitched. His July has been off the charts posting a 0.00 ERA in 8 innings pitched.
Dombrowski says " We are pleased to add an experienced arm to our bullpen." Jose can pick in a variety of roles, provides depth in the bullpen, and complements the roles of Joaquin Benout and Drew Smyly."
