LANSING (WKZO) -- A Michigan Republican Senator is pushing for a new oil processing facility in the state. Fed up with refinery shutdowns and skyrocketing gas prices, Senator Rick Jones, of Grand Ledge, is seeking to construct a so-called “portable” refinery, like the ones being pioneered in North Dakota.
According to Jones, it would be a smaller, leaner, cleaner operation. The senator filed his legislation last Wednesday and says he’d use the Michigan Strategic Fund to give the refinery a ten-year property tax and business tax abatement.
Jones says the package was inspired by a growing impatience in the Capitol with fuel prices that periodically skyrocket.
