COVERT (WKZO) -- The Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert is on a new list of reactors around the U.S. that are most likely to be put into early retirement.
The list was released this week by economic analysis at the Institute for Energy and the Environment at Vermont Law School, and it details 23 reactors with less than stellar records.
Palisades falls into the top nine, and Kevin Kamps with Beyond Nuclear says it's time for Entergy to cut its losses and shut the plant down. He says we would find other sources of energy if it was no longer in operation.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has been watching Palisades closely this year, after a string of shut downs caused by various equipment problems, but says the facility isn't endangering the community.
