KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Weather forecasters now say this heat wave is expected to continue through Thursday, maybe into Friday depending on when the rain arrives to cool things off.
Today will be another scorcher with a high near 92 and a heat index too close to 100 for comfort.
Most folks are just trying to get to work without needing another shower.
It’s hot all over the Midwest and up and down the east coast and no where will it be hotter and dryer than in the Maryland suburbs near Washington D.C. where 150-thousand homes and businesses will be without water for the next few days. It seems they need to make emergency repairs to a water main, and it will take time to fix.
Kalamazoo County Animal Control is busy these days rescuing dogs from vehicles, and in some cases, ticketing the owners for putting the animal’s lives at risk.
Director Steve Lawrence says it doesn’t take long for a car in weather like this to heat up like an oven.
He says this is a good rule of thumb. He says don’t leave your dog in any car that you wouldn’t also leave your mother in, or stay in yourself. He says it can fry the animal’s brain and the best thing to do is just leave the animal at home.
He says animal neglect is a misdemeanor and can result in a stiff fine.
