MACOMB COUNTY, MI  (WKZO) -- Furlough days begin this week for nearly 8,700 workers across the state as part of Department of Defense budget cuts due to the federal sequester.

In Macomb County, over 7,000 employees at the U.S. Army's Detroit Arsenal and Tank Automotive Command in Warren will take off one unpaid day a week until the end of the fiscal year on September 30th.  In Harrison Township, 750 workers at the Selfridge Air National Guard base will also have to take the furloughs.

The Department of Defense originally said workers would have to take 22 furlough days to deal with a 37-billion dollar budget cut, but dropped the number of days to eleven in May.
