UNDATED (WKZO) -- Six Detroit Tigers have made the American League’s All-Star Team, but only one of them is on the squad because Jim Leyland will be managing when they play the mid-summer classic.
Miguel Cabrera was the top vote-getter among fans with over 8-million votes and will be the Tigers only starter; although there is a good chance that the undefeated Max Scherzer will start for the A.L. team on the mound.
Scherzer, Prince Fielder, Tori Hunter and Jhonny Peralta were voted onto the team by the players.
That left Leyland with 6 slots to fill out the squad. He picked Justin Verlander, and 5 players from other teams that were passed over by the players and the fans.
Leyland also put Joaquin Benoit on the AL’s final pick ballot with four other players, which will be up to fans to decide.
Leyland is managing because the Tigers went to the World Series last year. The All Star Game is scheduled for July 16th at Citi Field in New York, the home of the Mets.
