NORTON SHORES (WKZO) -- Three college students are on a mission this summer, and will leave Sunday from Wisconsin for their family’s home in Ottawa County on a paddleboard, which is little more than a large surfboard.
Craig Masselink admits that the 30-hour trek won’t be easy. He says it will be the first time its been tried across the widest part of Lake Michigan, about 80 miles from shore to shore.
He will be joined by his brother Trent and friend Ginny Melby in the effort to raise money for Restore International, a ministry aimed at protecting youths in Africa from prostitution and child trafficking.
They’ll be accompanied by a boat just in case they need rescue. They plan to take turns paddling.
