KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- 19-year-old Fred Glespie has been formally charged with 2nd degree child abuse for allegedly leaving four toddlers unsupervised on the day that three of them died.

Court documents charge that Glespie left the children home alone to buy movies from someone else in the Interfaith Apartment Complex back on February 14th.

While he was gone, the townhouse caught fire and only one of the four kids escaped. Bond was set at $5,000.Their mother, Jonetta Woods was also in court on Tuesday to learn if her parental rights would be restored or terminated for the one child that survived the fire, 4-year-old Drayanna O’Day.

Judge Patricia Conlon was not satisfied with her progress, ordered her to take parenting lessons and get counseling. Her parental status will be reviewed again in September.
