DETROIT (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo's own Larry Bell has been named by Ernst and Young LLP as its Entrepreneur of the Year for the Detroit-Toledo region. The organization selects its winner based off things like business growth, philanthropy, leadership, and community involvement, and Bell says it was an honor to be awarded.
He says he's gratified to see his Bell's Brewery grow like it has in the past few decades, telling us that he started the company 30 years ago with nothing but 200 dollars that his mother gave to him as a birthday present.
What started out as a Michigan only beer has now grown to be a favorite nationwide, and Bell says they're busy over at the brewery right now, as the Fourth of July is Oberon's biggest selling holiday. Now that he's won the regional Entrepreneur of the Year award, he goes on for consideration for the national title, which will be announced in November.
