KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The merger between the Grand Valley Co-op Credit Union and Preferred Federal Credit Union of Greenville takes effect July 1st, and Customers in Kalamazoo will see some changes.
Spokesperson Chris Mulder says the sign on their South Westnedge Branch will change and eventually the name on checks and other bank documents will be changed to Preferred Federal Credit Union. They will continue to be accepted until members need new checks or replace their debit card.
She says the merged bank will have 24-thousand members and 154-million in assets, making it possible to cut the cost of providing service permitting them to maintain services like free checking and debit cards when most banks charge for them.
She says they will be switching to the “Preferred” name because some people think they have to be working at Grand Valley State University to be members and that’s not the case. This eliminates the confusion.
