The U.K. government is preparing to axe the department at University Hospital Lewisham, as well as downgrade a maternity ward, and the proposals have sparked outrage in the community.

Thousands of locals took to the streets on Saturday (26Jan13) to protest against the plans, and Izzard has added his support by highlighting an online petition calling for the proposal to be scrapped.
