Detroit, MI (WTVB) - A setback for Walmart in Southeast Michigan and possibly for the jobless as well. The Southfield City Council overwhelmingly shot down a proposal from the retailing giant. During their meeting last night, five of the city's seven council members voted against an amendment that would have re-zoned an abandoned church lot so a Walmart could be built there. The vote followed a five-hour meeting Monday night. The nine point-four acre lot Walmart officials were eyeing is owned by the Archdiocese and has been vacant for roughly seven-years. Those in favor of the store say it would have brought much needed jobs to the area.
