KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Broncos offense was fantastic Saturday night scoring five unanswered goals to lead them to a weekend series sweep of the Wolverines.
Nolan Laporte and Luke Witkowski got rough with some Wolverines at the drop of the puck to show they weren't going to get pushed around tonight. The enforcement seemed to work early on as the Broncos had several scoring chances, but were unable to find the back of the net. For several minutes Western Michigan goaltender Frank Slubowski and Michigan goalie Adam Janecyk denied both offenses making several great stops. With 4:25 remaining Michigan was on their second power play of the night as Andrew Copp put Michigan up 1-0 just seconds into the man advantage.
Early in the second period Shane Berschbach got the Broncos back in the game as he deflected a shot from the point at 4:08 to even the game at 1-1. Just minutes later at Kenney Morrison ripped a shot from the point on the powerplay beating the Michigan goaltender stick side to give WMU a 2-1 lead. In the final minutes of the period Colton Hargrove and Josh Pitt were on a 2 on 1 break, after a saucer pass from Pitt, Hargrove found the back of the net and extended the WMU lead to 3-1. The Michigan offense was nowhere to be found in the period as WMU out shot the Wolverines 15 to 3.
In the third period the Broncos continued their assult as Josh Pitt scored off a Michigan turnover at 2:13 to put WMU ahead 4-1. Western Michigan wasn't done yet, just minutes later at 3:53 Colton Hargrove added his second goal of the night increasing the lead to 5-1 and sealing the victory.
