KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A 34-year-old man has been shot and killed by a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer after a confrontation in the lobby of a local motel.
Public Safety first became involved when they received a call about a domestic assault case at about 2PM, with a warning that a man involved in the report may be armed, but he left the residence before they got there.
About 8-hours later, the man was spotted and a traffic stop attempted but the man refused to pull over. He proceeded to the Best Western on Cork Street where he got out of the car and walked into the lobby with officers hot on his tail.
Public Safety will only say that a confrontation occurred, a shot was fired by an officer and the man was wounded. He was rushed to Bronson Hospital’s emergency room where he later died.
The office of Professional Standards and the Criminal Investigations Division are conducting separate investigations of the incident.
