WASHINGTON (WKZO) -- U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has his wish list ready for Congress for the next five-year Farm Bill. The Senate passed a bill last session, but the House did not, forcing lawmakers to extend the current law through this growing season. The former Iowa governor called on Congress to come up with a bill that helps crop producers, livestock farmers and dairy producers and includes protection for specialty crops. The Senate bill passed last year included special assistance for farmers who had their crops wiped out by the drought and by an early bloom and freezes in the Great Lakes area.
