PORTAGE (WKZO) -- To counter claims by former Superintendent Ric Perry and his attorney that he did nothing to violate his contract, Portage school trustees have released a four page document explaining their allegations against him.
The main charge is that he had an extramarital affair with a female consultant who he then hired and gave preferential treatment. That includes continuing to pay her consulting fees, even after she was hired as the district’s Human Resources Director, and giving her a 17% raise.
They claim the affair has endangered the districts reputation and credibility, that he lied about it to board members and that it has exposed the district to sexual discrimination charges.
The report also claims that while he was acting superintendent in the district, he was also working to establish Charter Schools in the Grand Rapids area, without notifying the board, a clear conflict of interest.
It’s a summary of a 90-page report by an investigator. Perry and the district are headed to arbitration over the issues.
