New jobs coming to South West Michigan


UNDATED (WKZO) --State Officials have handed out the grants, tax breaks and other incentives they are using to attract business expansion in the state and millions of those dollars are coming to South West Michigan:

It’s been revealed that Perrigo has big expansion plans at both their facilities in Allegan and Holland Township. The Michigan Strategic Fund has announced they have expanded its maximum allowance for new jobs under its MEGA tax Credit by 650. 400 of the new jobs would support a 200-million dollar plant expansion at the former JB Laboratories location in Holland Township. They will also add 42-milion dollars in infrastructure and equipment to their facilities in Allegan, near their headquarters that would create another 250 jobs. Work would begin this spring, and hiring might begin toward the end of this year.

Fair Oaks Farm Brands of Coopersville has received a $900-thousand dollar grant from the state to support their plans to build a $127-million dollar facility in Coopersville, to make nutritionally enhanced liquid milk products. The new plant would create 133 jobs.Coopersville is chipping in a 12-year property tax abatement.

The City Of Battle Creek has a couple of major new developments in the pipeline, that have just won Business Development Program Grants.--Cosma International is planning to spend $162-million to open an automotive casting components and systems facility, which could eventually create 572 new jobs. Their grant will be 1.6-million from the state, and they have also getting a property tax break from the city.--Denso at Fort Custer plans to expand the list of automotive parts it makes by building a $105-million dollar facility that could eventually provide 266 new jobs. They picked that site over sites in Arkansas, Ontario and Mexico according to the state. They will get a $1,46 million dollar grant from the state and a 5-year tax break from the City of Battle Creek.

Whirlpool in Benton Harbor is receiving a 2.4-million dollar grant for a previously announce plan to move its refrigeration research and development operation from Evansville Indiana to Berrien County.They will invest 18.9-million dollars and create 180 jobs. Benton Harbor is contributing a 12-year tax abatement to the project
