Madison, WI (WKZO) – Keith Appling and Branden Dawson combined to score 37 of the Spartans 49 points, as #13 Michigan State won their sixth straight game, 49-47 over the Wisconsin Badgers Tuesday night.
With the win MSU stays atop the Big Ten standings, two wins ahead of Michigan and Indiana.
It took the Spartans nearly five minutes to score their first points, and found themselves trailing by seven in the first half before closing the gap to one at halftime, 28-27.
With 3 seconds left in the game, George Marshall had an opportunity to tie the game for the Badgers but missed both free throw attempts and the Spartans escaped with their 17 win of the season.
Dawson also contributed on the glass, by grabbing 13 rebounds. Mike Bruesewitz was the only Badger to score in double figures with 10.
Michigan State returns to action on Sunday against #7 Indiana. Tip-off is set for 1pm.
