GRANDVILLE (WKZO) -- Grandville fire investigators believe that careless smoking caused a fire that hospitalized an Ottawa County woman.  The fire totally destroyed a house in the 2400-block of Watercrest Avenue.

Fire crews responded to a call just before 5 a.m. Sunday, but by the time they arrived the home was totally engulfed in flames and the two occupants had already fled to a neighbor’s home.  The victim was evacuated from there to an undisclosed hospital.

Only charred rubble and part of a brick entrance remain of the home in the fire's aftermath.
