DETROIT (WKZO) -- Governor Rick Snyder joined Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and other officials as U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced a 31-million dollar investment for the Regional Transit Authority in Detroit. The authority will oversee the light rail project along Woodward Avenue and a bus rapid transit system that will serve four counties and Detroit.
The RTA was created by the Michigan ;egislature last year and was a key component in getting federal funding. The public-private transit system has raised more than 137-million dollars. The Kresge Foundation has also earmarked 35-million dollars for the project that begins this summer.
