CATCH IT: House Speaker Bolger calls for results after governor’s address

LANSING (WKZO) – Without a teleprompter or even a typed-out speech, Gov. Rick Snyder took the podium Wednesday night to deliver the annual State of the State address. Seated behind Snyder was a trio of leading Republican officials including Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, Lieutenant Gov. Brian Calley and House Speaker Jase Bolger.

In his speech, Snyder identified Michigan’s roads and bridges as a primary problem that needs to addressed statewide. While the majority of legislators agreed with Snyder’s focus, they tended to have mixed reviews on how to fix the problem.

House Speaker Jase Bolger told Michael Patrick Shiels on Michigan’s Big Show Thursday that this is not a time to stall, however, it is a time for action. “We need to have a debate on how to fix these issues,” Bolger said, “but it needs to be just that; a debate.”

Bolger went on to emphasize the importance of delivering results to the citizens of Michigan and ensuring that “the buck stops here”. The Speaker explained to Shiels that if we cannot come up with a solution, “It will be our children that will be paying to replace Michigan roads instead of repairing them.”

The Speaker noted that before any tax implementation or fee increase is considered, the administration will first be looking internally to cut spending. “The time has come to deliver results,” Bolger said, “and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
