WASHINGTON (WKZO) -- Congressmen Justin Amash of Grand Rapids and Bill Huizenga of Zeeland both voted against legislation to provide nearly 51-billion dollars in aid to victims of Superstorm Sandy. The package passed the House Tuesday, 241-180 after hours of debate.
The Republican leaders of the House came under intense pressure from members of their own party in the affected states after nothing was passed by the end of last session, with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and New York Congressman Peter King being the most vocal. Huizenga's office says he voted "no" because the spending wasn't balanced with other budget cuts.
