BENTON HARBOR (WKZO) -- Controversial Benton Harbor Emergency Manager Joseph Harris is out, officially, at the end of this month. The Treasury Department has named Tony Saunders II as the new emergency financial manager, effective February 1. Mayor James Hightower says it's time for a change.
City Commissioner Marcus Muhammad hopes Saunders conducts business in a different fashion than Harris.
Saunders has a lot of political experience working for the Detroit City Council and currently works for a marketing firm in Detroit.
He has also been working for the Treasury Department in the Detroit suburb of Highland Park, where they have erased a $1.3 million deficit and now have a surplus of $850,000.
The Benton Harbor City Commission will hold a planning session Monday night from 5 to 7 pm.
