ST. JOHNS (WKZO) -- Michigan State University veterinary school professor Patricia Schenck is facing a felony charge of animal neglect.
Police found 17 dogs and two cats at Schenck's home in what they called poor condition, and she is due in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for trial. If she goes to trial and is convicted, Schenck could spend four years in prison.
Schenck is the author of a 2010 book titled "Home-Prepared Dog and Cat Diets, Second Edition," and has worked at MSU for a dozen years.
