CATCH IT: New road plow to clear two lanes at once

UNDATED (WKZO) -- Livingston County will be the testing grounds for the state Department of Transportation’s new snow plow expected to cut plowing time almost in half.

MDOT announced last week the Tow Plow is a $93,000 truck that can be used clear two travel lanes at once. The tandem plow can be used as a traditional truck as well, and will always leave one lane of travel open for motorists.

MDOT Associate Region Engineer Will Thompson explained on Michigan’s Bog Show that the Tow Plow can clear up to 25 feet of roadway in one sweep. “It may look weird to some drivers,” Thompson says, “but we’re hoping to get the word out before the next big snow.”

The Tow Plow’s design has already been used in other hard hit winter states such as Missouri, Maine, and Ohio and has been quoted as a success.

To understand the Tow Plow’s full effect and when the truck can be seen statewide, check out full with Thompson interview above.

Michigan’s Big Show can be heard on 590 AM/96.5 FM WKZO every weekday morning from 10am -12 pm.
