EMMETT (WKZO) -- At last word, no names had been released, but two people were seriously injured and four more were hurt Monday night in Emmett Township when a pickup and a semi collided on 11 Mile road just north of I-94. It happened around 6:30 p.m. when the semi pulled from the back parking lot of the Te-Khi truck stop and the pickup struck the truck trailer and got wedged under it.
The pickup driver, a 32-year-old Vermontville man, was flown from the scene to Kalamazoo for treatment. The front seat passenger, his 28-year-old girlfriend from Battle Creek, also is reported in serious condition. Her three children and her sister in the back seat escaped with minor injuries. The semi driver and a passenger were not hurt.
Emmett Township Department of Public Safety officials says alcohol and or drugs may have been a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
