KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Public Safety officials say a pair of K-9 trackers sniffED out a couple of alleged car thieves on the city’s north side Sunday night.
A delivery driver from Hunan Gardens left his Honda CRV running while he made a delivery in the 800-block of West Kalamazoo. When he came back, the vehicle was gone.
Three hours later, the vehicle was spotted on Patterson Street with two teens inside. They abandoned it after a short chase from Kalamazoo Public Safety and disappeared into a nearby neighborhood around 9 p.m.
A tracking dog sniffed out the passenger, a 17-year-old from Oshtemo, hiding beneath a deck. Another tracked the 16-year-old driver to a home on Princeton.
Both suspects were arrested for car theft and resisting and obstructing police. The passenger was also found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant.
