KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer checking out a suspicious subject in a vehicle in the 3700-block of Vanrick Drive around 3 a.m. Tuesday ran a check of the vehicle's registration and found the owner had a child support warrant out for his arrest. When officers went to make contact with the 36-year-old Kalamazoo man, he fled into a hotel room only to emerge a short while later and he was arrested.
While waiting for the man to come out, officers smelled marijuana in the man's vehicle and a quick search turned up a large quantity of the drug and scales. A search of the hotel room turned up more marijuana, cash, and a .22 caliber handgun.
The suspect faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
