CATCH IT: Notre Dame Alumni, Fmr. Detroit Lion talks Alabama smack down

LANSING (WKZO) – Surprised by the final score of the National Championship game Monday night?

While it didn’t shock Crimson Tide nation, the rest of the country marveled as the 12-0 Notre Dame Fighting Irish were toppled on the national stage in the Discover Orange Bowl, 42-14. Scott Kowalkowski was among those getting his first real look at Alabama last night, and even as an alumni and former Notre Dame football player, he was impressed.

“Notre Dame’s strength this season has been their defensive front seven, and clearly Alabama dominated them on that front as well as on the offensive line,” Kowalkowski told Michael Patrick Shiels Tuesday on Michigan’s Big Show.

Kowalkowski grew up in Michigan, and played his college ball at the University of Notre Dame. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, but spent seven seasons with the Detroit Lions.

“ I was highly impressed by number 42 (Eddie) Lacy,” Kowalkowski added, “He has quick and nimble feet were impressive for such a big guy.”

Alabama’s leading rusher last night finished with 140 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown.

“Games like last night’s boils down to fundamentals, and Alabama has great personnel to get the job done.”

Scott also gave his predictions for the Super Bowl. Listen here
