KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The City of Kalamazoo has declared the all-clear on a raw sewage spill at the corner of Maple and Crosstown Parkway near Axtell Creek, and announced that there has been another spill in Oshtemo Township.
The new spill occurred Monday morning at about 7:30, when the Dept. of Public Services received a report that raw sewage was pouring out of a manhole on Crystal Lane near 11th Street. The sludge flowed to a storm drainage area northwest of the street, thru the storm water system.
They estimate between 12 and 15-hundred gallons was released.By 9:00AM they had the blocked main unclogged and the sewage flowing normally again.
THe DNR and County Health officials were notified that the spill occured.
Over the weekend it was disclosed that an estimated 300-thousand gallons of raw sewage overflowed into the wetlands near Averill Lake sometime late last month and was only recently discovered.
