KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- For the Second time this year, there has been a massive release of raw sewage in the wetlands near Averill Lake in Kalamazoo’s northeast side.
This time 300-thousand gallons of raw sewage gushed out into Spring Valley Creek just east of Averill Lake. They blame a blockage in a sewer pipe for the overflow. City crews are assessing and testing.
They are warning the public to stay out of the area, and keep their pets out of the area for now.About twice as much raw sewage, 600-thousand gallons flowed into the area last spring, when someone intentionally blocked the pipe by tossing woodscraps into it.
